TRAINING INSTITUTIONS & GOVERNMENT AGENCIES

CENTRE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING AND TECHNOLOGY (CEPT): CEPT is a leading institution that imparts various degree level courses on planning, architecture, construction technology etc. and has a well developed infrastructure in these fields. It has a specialized unit extending technical support services to various institutions including the government. Additionally, CEPT is listed as a technical support agency by Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA) to assist and evaluate the construction activities carried out by various agencies in the state as part of post earthquake reconstruction. IOM engaged CEPT to extend technical support for construction activities (planning, designing, tendering, monitoring and quality assurance) whilst executing the shelter component of the Livelihood recovery Project in Gujarat.

CENTRE FOR HEALTH EDUCATION, TRAINING AND NUTRITION AWARENESS (CHETNA): CHETNA initiated its activities in 1980 with a project aimed at improving the effectiveness of government implemented supplementary feeding programmes for mothers and adolescents in the State of Gujarat. Over the past two decades, the activities have broadened in the field of nutrition, health, education and development from a "Rights" perspective. The activities currently reach out to disadvantaged and marginalized children, adolescents and women from rural, tribal and urban areas of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. IOM engaged CHETNA to carry out an assessment of the health and hygiene situation in the Livelihood Recovery Project area along with a training need assessment of the women volunteers from among the migrant salt workers families. On the basis of the assessment done by CHETNA, a Training of Trainers on community health and hygiene was conducted for 21 field staff. 70 community level health volunteers training camps were organized by the field staff trained by CHETNA as trainers. 1132 women volunteers from the area were trained on the preventive aspects of health and hygiene in these training.

COUNCIL OF ARCHITECTURE (COA): COA is a constitutional body constituted by the Government of India. The COA is charged with the responsibility to regulate the education and practice of profession throughout India besides maintaining the register of architects. COA assisted IOM in construction of temporary shelters during the immediate relief activities undertaken in Gujarat post earthquake.

FRIENDS OF WOMEN’S WORLD BANKING (FWWB): FWWB was established in 1982 as an affiliate of Women’s World Banking. FWWB strives for a society based on equity and social justice where women are active partners in holistic development. It is an apex institution providing financial and capacity building services to organizations promoting livelihoods and self reliance of poor women. Its operations are currently spread across 12 states in partnership with 12 organizations. For implementing its micro-credit program in Gujarat, IOM liaised with FWWB for designing and imparting training to its field staff and project beneficiaries.

INSTITUTE OF HOTEL MANAGEMENT AND CATERING TECHNOLOGY (IHMCT): IHMCT is a leading institute engaged in equipping individuals for the hospitality sector. IHMCT has been set up under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism. IHMCT, Chennai facilitated the food production training of the participants engaged in the mobile restaurant at Pondicherry under the ERTV Project. In the ERST initiative, IOM partnered with IHMCT, Pusa to impart training in laundry services to 30 participants to be engaged in the laundry unit being set up in Delhi in association with Prayas Institute of Juvenile Justice.

INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT (ICECD):
ICECD is a pioneer in designing and implementing Entrepreneurship training programmes for women. The centre is working with business communities, government agencies and development agencies across Asia, Africa, Pacific and Caribbean countries. The Centre has a gender sensitive, pro-poor, need based, and participatory approach in all its interventions that are carried out as per the needs of the society. Tribal and rural women at the grassroots level make a vital section of the centre's target group. IOM partnered with ICECD to conduct centralized vocational training programmes for its project beneficiaries under the Livelihood Recovery Project.

HYDERABAD URBAN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (HUDA): HUDA is the Andhra Pradesh state government agency to oversee the Hyderabad Metropolitan area, to regulate and develop urban infrastructure, services and amenities. HUDA has allotted a site at a prime location (and at a very nominal cost) for setting up a fast-food outlet to be operated by the beneficiaries under the ERST Project.

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF FASHION DESIGN (NIFD):
NIFD is a trend-setting institute in Fashion, Textile and Interior Design, based out of Mumbai. NIFD has been involved in training survivors of trafficking engaged in a Fashion garment construction unit set up in association with Prerana by IOM.

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF FASHION TECHNOLOGY (NIFT): National Institute of Fashion Technology was set up in 1986 under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. It has emerged as the premier Institute of Design, Management and Technology, developing professionals for taking up leadership positions in fashion business in the emerging global scenario. In partnership with NIFT, Kolkata training was imparted to 30 participants and in partnership with NIFT, Hyderabad, a common facility-production cum training centre equipped with high end machinery was set up in Kadapa wherein three batches of participants, each comprising of 30 members have been trained. The common facility centre is currently being managed by the District Rural Development Authority (DRDA), Kadapa.

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH (NIOH): Since its inception in 1966, the NIOH has been carrying out significant studies on various aspects of occupational/industrial health involving epidemiological studies and surveillance of hazardous occupations including air pollution, noise pollution, agricultural hazards, industrial hazards in organised sectors as well as small scale industries, carcinogenesis, pesticide toxicology, etc., in different parts of India, apart from laboratory and clinical studies for recognition and evaluation of risk factors for occupation/environment related diseases and designing of appropriate measures for prevention of hazards and/or control of the risk factors at work places. With the help of NIOH, IOM organized health camps among the beneficiaries to make them aware of the occupational health hazards in the saltpans and the precautionary measures that should be taken.

VANDANA LUTHRA’S CURLS AND CURVES INSTITUTE (VLCC INSTITUE):
The institute is the first complete Institute of Beauty, Health & Management in India and was established to share VLCC's dream. Based in New Delhi, it offers professional and specialised courses in beauty, health and management. Participants under the ERST Project were trained as beauticians and masseurs at this institute in partnership with Prayas Institute of Juvenile Justice.
